Description:

Titled "Americans All", artist Howard Chandler Christy portrayed an Honor Roll of fourteen American ethnic surnames to emphasize that America was a melting pot of "Americans All" united for one cause. To the left of the Honor Roll list stands a stoic female in sleeveless flowing gown with her left hand hanging a wreath above the Honor Roll to honor those who died in battle. A giant-sized American flag forms a backdrop behind the woman and accents her silhouette boldly against the rest of the poster, which is mostly soft-tinted earth tones. The bottom of the poster promotes Victory Liberty Loans in large, bold-blue lettering. Artist Christy created this 1919 War poster to help the fundraising effort by the U.S. government, which opposed piling up national debt to finance a major war, so they used public relations campaigns to promote savings bonds and/or liberty bonds as a primary fund-raising tool to pay for World War 1. The artist's original Americans All work hangs in the Library of Congress. The poster print is contained by a thin, elegant gold metallic glassed frame, measures a sizable 27 X 40 inches and beautifully features the unique rich colors of early 20th century inks. Many modern-day prints imitate this popular 1919 World War 1 poster print, but an ORIGINAL 1919 print (such as this one) contains annotations in the lower left and right corners respectively. Lower left annotation is "No. 4-C" and lower right is "Forbes Boston".
