KelleyBee Rabbitry is located in Salem Township just north of Greensburg PA. Our rabbitry is registered with ARBA and we are paying members of the NSFC and the Livestock Conservancy. Why purchase from our rabbitry? All rabbits come with a pedigree, weight, health records from within the first 24 hours of birth up until the date of rehoming to you. Additionally, rabbits 16 weeks of age and older come with a written individual assessment using ARBA's Standard of Perfection. Faults and disqualifiers, if any, are clearly noted. We take our rabbits' health and detailed record keeping seriously. ***We work closely with a certified ARBA registrar who helps us work toward the best possible rabbits in terms of health and standards. ***We open each cage daily and pet every rabbit daily to aid in rabbit to human relationships to establish trust and ease of handling. ***All of our rabbits' guts are conditioned to be able to eat fresh greens in the event pellets ever become unavailable. We harvest fresh greens from edible trees and bushes at heights too high for wild rabbits to reach, and from a raised garden bed fenced from wild rabbit entry. ***To reduce the possibility of viruses, parasites and bacteria from infecting our herd, we keep ALL of our rabbits off the ground. ***To protect the health of our herd, we follow quarantine and biosecurity recommendations. EFFORTS TO REVIVE AND PRESERVE THIS RARE BREED: The Silver Fox rabbit is an endangered American Heritage breed and is listed on the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy's (ABLC) Conservation Priority List as a threatened rabbit breed. The breed needs help if it is going to survive and make a comeback as a viable show, meat, pelt and pet rabbit. You can help us bring back the breed. If you are not interested in breeding Silver Foxes, then please consider adopting a single kit as a pet. Or, if you'd like to get involved with helping consider a breeding trio (1 male, 2 females) and begin your own breeding program. If needed, we are happy to mentor you on your new venture! BREED HISTORY: The Silver Fox rabbit breed was developed in Canton, Ohio in the early 1900s and was first recognized as a breed in and of itself by the American Rabbit Breeder's Association (ARBA) in 1925. Raised primarily for their meat and fur, interest in the breed began to wane as demand for their fur decreased. You can learn more about the breed by simply conducting a web search. BREED USEFULNESS: Due to their docile nature, some people keep Silver Foxes as pets; they are also quite useful as a wholesome, clean source of meat for your family and the pelt of the adult Silver Fox remains as beautiful as ever. I've included photos of some of our breeding stock. ARBA Recognition The American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) currently recognizes the black and the chocolate coat color of the breed. The blue coat was recognized by ARBA until the 1990s when not enough were being bred and shown. Efforts are being made to reestablish the blues with ARBA. The lilac coat has yet to be recognized but is a beautiful and worthwhile addition to any Silver Fox herd and breeding program.
