A bit tattered but sounds as good as the day it came out of the factory! Somewhat legendary AC-30 toured by Hootie and the Blowfish, ended up sold to Darius Rucker's guitar tech Billy Chapman (his name's engraved on the choke). Has the early era AC-30 lower value 47 ohm bias resistor meaning it breaks up at a lower volume. Some knowledgeable players prefer the tone of the 47 ohm to the 82 ohm bias resistor that later became stock because the amp runs hotter and breaks up earlier in the volume range. You can dig in a little at relatively low volume and get some mighty fine grit. Killer blues tone with a strat middle pup! Or you can dial up the Brian May thing. It's all there. Same year and model all 3 guitar Beatles used on their first two records at Abbey Road. If you've been looking for the real deal you found it! I know, it's supposed to be fawn, and it was once, but it went back to the factory for the top boost upgrade and was recovered in the slick black vinyl of the earliest era of black AC-30s. It's got that super vintage early Beatles era look - like a leather jacket! You can also spot the old '61 sized center handle marks in the tolex which was later replaced by the handle there now. Low four digit serial number. The power and output transformers are original, as are most of the caps and resistors. The tremolo works deliciously well. The amp sounds like it's supposed to, tons of clean glassy chime edging into smooth overdrive as the volume knob passes the 12 o'clock mark. Billy Chapman called it "the best sounding AC-30 in the world". The original speakers were replaced with the same model of 1967 silver bell Celestions which had been standard in 1961 according to the date codes on the frames. To my knowledge those have not been re-coned but they definitely did get broken in on the road. They sound perfect.
