1999 DUCATI 900SS souped-up 944cc Street Racer -- $12,000 originally invested. 944cc Big Bore cylinders with high domed racing pistons. Fuel injection with Power Commander tuned for very strong low-rpm power. Fantastic mid-range power. 90 Horsepower at rear wheel on dyno. 389 pounds with quarter tank of gas. Runs great on 91 octane non-ethanol. Geared down for tremendous acceleration. Reduced rake for quicker steering. Absolutely magic in the curves. Radial Brembo front master cylinder for tremendous braking. Showa fully-adjustable forks, Penske Racing shock. Crazy yellow paint job. Entire chassis and suspension built by CompuTrack Boston. Engine built by SRE (Sweeney Racing Engines) I bought the bike from a Ducati dealer, who said it was originally built for a customer who wanted to try racing. The dealer said the owner raced it one afternoon, and brought it back on Monday, saying , "SELL IT". Hmmmm. Well, it does take a special kind of guy to push a bike like this to its limits. At any rate, Zap Cycle in Paynesville modified the bike to be 100% street-legal, but it still looks like a racer. This little Italian beauty will beg you, "Ride me hard, Big Boy, ride me hard and fast." And you can't help but say, "Oh Yeaaah". And what a ride she'll give you. The bike screams "YOU'LL NEVER TAKE ME ALIVE, YOU DIRTY COPPER"... But if you have the cajones to ride this bike in the first place, you aren't worried about getting caught doing the "ton" on it. I'm on the short side of my 75th birthday, and I'll confess -- I don't ride this bike very often, nor as aggressively as I used to, and I'm ready to have it go to a new home. I am a retail apparel store, so I can take a credit card. I like fun bikes, so I'd consider a motorcycle trade-in. (or maybe a Subaru wagon) But I'm not interested in trading for any other vehicle. (I'm not interested in trading for guns -- no snowmobiles, no four-wheelers, no boats, no cars, no trucks, no 4-point antlers from your first deer, no golf clubs, no tackle boxes full of your favorite fishing lures, no bow and arrows that your grampa left you, no stuffed gophers from your taxidermy lessons, no pets, no children, no girlfriends, no wives, especially no wives) -------------------------------------- Since I've owned the bike, all service has been performed by Zap Cycle in Paynesville MN. Oil changes have always been done at 2,000 miles or less. Recent Service -- 3,234 miles - Installed new 14T front sprocket 4,291 miles - Installed new 45T rear sprocket 4,291 miles - Installed new RK XS0 chain 7,378 miles - Installed new front Dunlop Sportmax Qualifier 3 7,941 miles - Replaced oil pressure switch 8,004 miles - Installed new rear Dunlop Sportmax Roadsmart 2 8,602 miles - Replaced fork seals 8,602 miles - Replaced clutch plates 8,602 miles - Serviced steering bearings Most recently: 8,654 miles - Engine oil and filter changed 8,654 miles - Brake and Clutch hydraulic fluid flushed 8,654 miles - Valves clearances checked to ensure that shimming within spec/checked good 9,024 miles - Installed new cam belts ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Full disclosure: The rear hugger has been removed.
