Senior Construction Project Accountant Job Description: The position is fully accountable for monitoring the projects' billing process and assisting project managers to understand the financial life cycle of the projects from the bidding process to conclusion. The position reports directly to the Assistant Controller, Chief Accounting Officer, and Chief Financial Officer. Duties: • Process weekly subcontractor payment applications verifying document requirements (licensing, insurance, W-9's, lien releases, certified payrolls, supplier releases, etc.), contract amounts and subcontract terms. • Work with Project Manager to upload the budget, complete with billing items at the beginning of the project, processing change orders throughout, and reviewing final payment apps to allow for an efficient billing process. • Responsible for verifying monthly actuals to budget and coordinating the accurate and timely billing with the Project Manager according to contract requirements. • Assess and analyze percentage to completion on subcontractor jobs and subcontractor billings to ensure they are in conformance with the subcontract scope, terms and conditions. • Assist in the preparation of loan draws by providing any backup necessary. • Ensure all construction lien and proof of insurance documentation is obtained from subcontractors and sub-tier suppliers. • Monitor fixed asset activity in detail with a monthly review of job cost activity ensuring consistent and proper coding. • Provide administrative support to the Project Manager and the construction field staff including typing, copying, and mailing packages. • Maintain project files, including both paper and electronic records. This is specific to lien documents, invoices, contracts, conditional, unconditional, etc. • Verify subcontractors' insurance coverage (limits, expiration date, additional insured, etc) and all sub-trade and material-men lie waivers have been provided before releasing checks. If missing or incorrect, contact subcontractor to address issue. • Process expense reimbursement invoices for approval. • Send invoices & change orders to Project Manager for approval and file appropriately. • Review A/P Aging on a semi-monthly basis and preparation of check runs to include: sorting vouchers, initiating check run, attaching backup, and preparing checks for mailing and filing. • Provide year-end support of auditor requirements, which may include research and reconcilement. • Assist with general accounts payable and ad-hoc projects that may come up. Desired Qualifications: • Bachelor's Degree or some college courses in accounting or business preferred. • Intermediate to advanced computer literacy, including experience in word processing, spreadsheets and accounting software. • More than 5 years of billing or accounts payable, with at least 2-3 years in construction accounting.
