An outstanding example of Turn-of-the-Century Medical apparatus. In near mint condition, this antique X-Ray Tube Stand is ready for a museum, showroom or any Industrial-chic décor. Manufactured by the Kelley-Koett Company of Covington, KY, this piece is was used in nearly any manner of Medical Facility where X-Rays were performed. The stand's articulating joints and structure allowed the X-Ray tube to be adjusted to any target. Rather hard to believe by today's standards but, in the early 1900's the X-Ray Tubes (Crookes) were fully exposed with no shielding at all. (See original picture above.) This piece was found in the basement of an old auction house. The black matted crust that had formed over the piece seems to have preserved it very well. After using a mild soap to clean off the dirt, I was amazed to find that all the hardware was solid copper or brass which took a high polish with very little effort. The heavy cast iron tripod base retains the original black baked enamel finish, accentuated with delicate gold leaf-style filigree. The wood seems to be mahogany and is in superb condition with some very light signs of use. Even the clamp itself is in pristine condition with the original cork pads and felt lining that held the delicate glass tubes. The KK X-Ray Tube Stand measures approximately 48" tall (not extended) x 16 1/2" at the base. There is no doubt as to the origin or age of this incredible piece of Medical History. The original sticker is mostly intact and features the double K logo used by Kelley-Koett in the early 1900's. The brass support plate sports a small, rough engraving, U 1, indicating the Kelley-Koett model "Universal 1" as shown on page 21 of the 1910 Kelly-Koett catalog: "An X-Ray of Light - Apparatus of Precision for Correct Roentgenography". This is one of those rare, beautiful pieces that can fit nearly any décor. Think of the possibilities...it can be turned into a lamp without affecting the integrity or value of the piece just by hanging a light from the clamp! Nothing short of a work of art...created at a time when pride in workmanship was at an all time high! Priced at $2800.00, this piece has been appraised at $4000-$5000 due to its significance in the Medical/Scientific communities. If interested, please contact me by email or text to arrange a viewing.
