This workbench top/ramp/lifting system was made to allow it to be used for different purposes. When placed on supports and with a plywood top it can be used as a heavy duty work bench for extremely heavy items. As a ramp, the 10" rise at each end allows it to meet the top landing when placed on a the "1st step down" as seen in the "piano" pictures. The "piano" pictures how a 700 pound piano was moved by one person from a basement and up 8 steps (the piano was then moved to the 1st floor, also using the ramp as a platform). The "tree" pictures show how the truss ramp was used as a lifting system for a Japanese Maple with an estimated 5,000/6,000 pound root ball - again allowing one person to complete this project. The ramp/lifting system was assembled on either side of the tree trunk. Strapping was installed over the ramp, and under the root ball and plywood. Angle iron and a 6000 pound farm jack raised each end off the ramp gradually. When the root ball was lifted high enough heavy beams and plywood were placed in the hole to create another ramp. Automobile dollies were put under the root ball and plywood, and the root ball lowered on the dollies. It was then winched onto a trailer, moved about 24 miles, and replanted. The tree is doing great about 20 years later. The 3 pieces of this system are the heavy truss-style workbench/ramp/lifting frame, the "bridge" support between the truss ramp and an extending ramp (not pictured). For moving the piano the extending ramp went about 5 feet into basement. The extending ramp can also be used to load into a pickup truck bed, van, etc. The pieces can be assembled as needed, depending on the job requirements. When not used as a ramp or lifting system the ramp makes a great heavy duty workbench. When used as a ramp for the piano the two center cross-beams were removed, and 3/4" plywood was placed across the doubled trusses. Since the piano was back-heavy, an extra 2" X 4" support on the piano's "heavy" side was added. The bridge support eliminates the step-down outside a basement door, and created a gentle incline for moving heavy items up the stairs. The ramp/doubled trusses are 10' 1-1/2" long, 24-7/8" at the widest points (the 4" X 6" supports for the trusses), and has a 13" opening between the inside 2" X 8" trusses. Included are: the doubled-truss beams/ramp, the "bridge" support, and the extending ramp (not pictured) The materials to build the workbench top/ramp/lifting system system would cost about twice the $50 price (2" X 10", 2" X 8", 4" X 6", 4" X 4" lumber, screws, bolts, and lag bolts).
