One of the unique properties of this is that although it has a somewhat low density, it is very strong. As a result it is very popular in creating model airplanes as the structure tend to be quite stiff. Another use of balsa wood is in model bridge construction in the design and testing phase. Model bridges constructed from balsa are also used in educational settings for teaching subjects such as wood work, physics and number of other things.
