Rhode Island Artist Still Life Painting of Irises Phoenix AZ

For your consideration is a vintage oil still life painting of purple irises by listed artist Mary Ann Podolak. This beautiful painting was completed on canvas and signed by the artist on the lower right, Podolak. It is also inscribed on the back of the canvas with the artist's name and date, Podolak '84 as well as the inscription of Wickford Art Show. The Wickford Art Show is a popular annual art festival located in the scenic village of Wickford, Rhode Island. This painting is in very good condition. Under a black light it shows no signs of paint loss, in-painting or repair. Unframed the painting measures 20" wide x 24" in height and together with the vintage gold wooden frame and black velour textured liner it measures 25" x 29". The handsome vintage frame has a depth of 1 3/4" and is in overall good condition with some minor chipping and surface abrasions consistent with its age. As for the artist, Mary Ann Podolak was born in Chicago and raised in the Washington D.C. area. Upon graduating from Brown University with a degree in Art, she attended the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in England to study stage design and scene painting. For six years she was the scenic artist at Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, Rhode Island. Her interest turned to advertising design and illustration, and for most of her career she was the art director for a small Providence agency. Afterwards, she served as assistant director of the Pawtucket Arts Council (R.I.) for seven years. She is now enjoying "the rest of her life" in the charming waterfront village of Wickford, R.I. When she's not painting she can found restoring her very old house, gardening or beach combing. For over 40 years, Mary Ann's paintings garnered her multiple awards at exhibitions and art festivals throughout New England, where she participated in many solo and group exhibitions. She was a member of the Providence Art Club, The Copley Society of Boston, The Newport Art Museum and Association, The Wickford Art Association, The Mystic Museum of Art, The South County Art Association and the Jamestown Art Center.
