While chrome has been the standard "bling" for car and motorcycle parts in the past, this finishing method is becoming less popular with each year. Today, vehicle manufacturers are getting more creative by using substitute finishing methods that replace the once-revered chrome finish. These may include paint, powder coat, plastic coating, textured finishes, etc. There are many reasons for wanting to reduce or eliminate chrome-finished parts. The biggest is that the chroming process is killing our environment. Chroming shops have to continually comply with more strict government regulations each year. As such, the chroming industry has become a lot less profitable than it once was. These businesses either have to charge you more to chrome your parts or else cut back on quality. Most do the latter. They will skip steps or use cheaper materials in the process. The result is a finish that, although may be shiny, is noticeably shallow, distorted and nowhere near as durable as chrome used to be. The finish quickly starts to fade, chip, peel, dull or generally look and performs like crap within a very short time. Road spray that once bounced off chrome now gets embedded. You notice more dings. You'll find out that it scratches a lot easier. You notice that it looses it's shine, even after it gets polish. You may even find the thin chrome layer start to separate from the part near seams or corners. Nothing seems to bring back that brand new look it once had. You soon become disappointed that you paid so much for such a low quality finish. FEAR NOT! - THERE IS AN ANSWER! - POLISHED PARTS! Here are some of the great advantages of polished parts... * With polished parts, you have a finish that is as deep as the material itself! * Scratches, dings, most all defects can be sanded down and/or polished out, bringing your part back to brand new looking any time you want! * Polished parts are easy to maintain. Just wash them using the same products you use to wash the rest of your bike. * Restore them anytime using any high-quality, store-bought aluminum or stainless steel polishing products. * Anyone can polish parts - but not many do. Why? Polishing parts can only be done on a one-off scale. The method to polish parts is a time consuming, laborious process. That's why they are not mass produced or found in motorcycle parts catalogs. There's no way to fully automate the polishing process and therefore these parts cannot be mass-produced. Polishing parts today is done the same way as 100 years ago - by hand - one by one. Once you do, they have your legitimate phone number which gets put on a call list. That list gets sold to marketing companies. Miners use an app that disguises their phone number to make it look like they're calling from your same area code. They say they're local and want to come by to see the item, so they ask you to "call or text them". Here's the response you'll get from me if you ask me to "call or text" you... "Hello. Yes, this item is still available as of this writing. It is my policy to only communicate through this Craigslist message system.
