Details:
This antique covered fish-dish-and-tray has been in one family for four generations, charming diners with its colorful 3-dimensional fish handle. Made in Japan, the hand-painted dish makes a fine display piece but is still useful for serving sushi or sardines with flair. (See photos for maker's mark and how nicely the contents of a can of sardines would fit in the dish.) What a great way to get kids interested in eating healthful seafood! This once-popular style is a traditional serving piece that's no longer made. The three pieces of china are in good overall antique condition. There's one tiny and one very small chip (both on edges) and some interruptions in the gold striping from use, but the pieces are without cracks, crazing, discolorations, or major chips. The colors -- soft spring green and metallic gold against the white background, with the fish in tints of blue, grey, and purple with yellow highlights on the body and eye -- are pretty and fresh. The china is clean and shiny and, most important, the fish itself is in very fine fettle. Dimensions: Bottom tray is 6.5" long x 5" wide. Lidded dish (closed) is 5" long x 3.5" wide and about 1.5" tall (without handle). The fish handle is 3" across. Please note that although I'm unwilling to ship this item, I'd be happy to protect the china with bubble wrap and a sturdy box so the purchaser can safely transport it to its new home.
