This is a piece of Lokta PAPER ART made by hand from the Lokta bushes which grow on the southern slopes of the Nepali Himalayas between 5,250 and 13,000 feet. Lokta is one of the most sought after, renewable, non-tree papers. Traditional transport donkeys carry the paper through the mountain passes of Nepal to the capital, Kathmandu, where it is crafted into paper products. Lokta paper is more resistant to tearing than modern papers and is also resistant to mildew, humidity and insect damage. The RICH, BROWN COLOR of this piece of paper is from dark walnut vegetable dye with an cut-out overlay of beige paper. Paper is 8.5" x 11.5" and is not "perfectly square" as it is HAND MADE. This vintage piece of paper art was obtained by a family member on her travels many years ago. Item is from a smoke free home pictures paper
