Jenkins Is A Chi Mix Who Deserves To Be Wanted And Cherished Phoenix AZ

Jenkins is a 5 year old chi mix who was brought into a kill shelter in the Central Valley as a stray. He looked like he has had a tough life prior to getting picked up as he was scraggly, dirty, and underweight. Jenkins is not a big guy but he got put in a kennel with several dogs. Sadly, his kennel mates decided to take him out and the next thing he knew, he was being attacked by all of them. Staff were able to get him out in time before he was killed but if he looked beat up before he was brought into the shelter, he was a real mess after the attack. Staff put him in the infirmary unit to keep him safe and allow him time to heal. But that wasn't the end of his problems because the next thing you know, he had run out of time at the shelter and he was scheduled to be euthanasized. We found him just in the nick of time and rescued him. Talk about a sweet dog! Jenkins follows his foster around like a shadow, but we can see he is still traumatized from being attacked in his kennel. When his foster goes to work, Jenkins will get himself underneath a blanket and behind a pillow on the couch and stay there until his foster comes home. Why? Because the foster has other dogs in the house and Jenkins is afraid he will be attacked again. He's also been found hiding in a closet as well. And Jenkins cannot go to adoption events because when strangers try to get him out of his kennel, he will try to bite them. That's not surprising considering that he was trapped in a kennel with other dogs trying to kill him. The truth is that Jenkins is a gentle, sweet loving dog who quickly attaches to his human. He will follow you around like a shadow! But he is scared around other dogs when he does not know them, and he can bite if he feels trapped and terrified. That will resolve in time as it's just a fear reaction. And to his credit, Jenkins has not tried to bite his foster ever. And he has not bitten anyone when out for walks or when company stops by to visit. Did we mention that Jenkins LOVES to go for walks? He walks well on a leash and is also mostly house broken. Jenkin's perfect home would be one that has an adult around a fair amount to keep him company. He would be happier in a home without a lot of other pets: maybe alone, or with another dog, or cat. And he needs someone who will want to take him out for walks as often as possible because he loves his walks! Jenkins is an old soul who truly wants to be loved, and belong to someone for the rest of his life. He is neutered, up to date with shots, and microchipped.
