Residents of Jersey City and Hoboken can apply for $10 spay/neuter services for their pet dogs OVER 40 pounds, and outdoor community cats (stray and/or feral cats who LIVE OUTSIDE) they care for. This program is NOT for pet cats who live indoors or small dogs under 40lbs. Spaying & neutering allows pets to live a healthier and less stressful life. Spaying females helps prevent uterine infections and breast cancer, which is fatal in about 50 percent of dogs and 90 percent of cats. Spaying your pet before her first heat offers the best protection from these diseases. Neutering males prevents testicular cancer, aggression problems, and the "marking their territory" behavior. It also helps to control pet over-population by preventing unwanted litters of puppies and kittens. Fixing cats through the Trap-Neuter-Return process decreases the community cat population humanely.
