!!!BARN, SHED AND GARAGE HOMES NEEDED for barn kitties waiting for good outdoor homes!!! Barncats "R" Us is affiliated with several shelters and barn cat rescue organizations in Washington. We rehome outdoor cats to barn, shed and garage homes where they work as rodent hunters. Many of these cats are feral or very shy, and so will be seldom seen. Others are friendly, but too fractious or unhappy living indoors to be good house pets. Most of these cats have been rescued from outdoor homes where previous owners have moved or can't keep caring for their outdoor cats, or where development will soon destroy the cats' home. Regardless of their origin, our goal is to humanely prevent free-roaming cats from breeding, which is a major source of homeless kittens and adult cats winding up in shelters. In rural areas, cats in groups can alert each other to dangers from approaching predators such as coyotes or free-roaming dogs. Urban and suburban garage homes are ideal for one or two cats. We routinely place garage cats with city dwellers with rats in their attic or crawl space, and with back yard chicken farmers, where chicken feed is attracting rodents. Our cats have had a health check by a veterinarian, are spayed/neutered, have tested negative for serious feline communicable diseases, and have received all the usual cat vaccines, including the rabies vaccine. This barn cat placement service is FREE!!! However, we ask that you: 1. Provide an ongoing source of dry food and water. It is not true that cats must be hungry in order to hunt. In fact, chronically hungry cats can't hunt very well, and they may leave your property in search of an adequate food source elsewhere if you don't give them enough food to keep them healthy and happy. 2. Provide secure, dry shelter that is inaccessible to predators such as coyotes and loose dogs. Examples of suitable shelter include a dog house or some other kind of box with warm bedding placed placed up off the ground in a barn, shed or garage. 3. Provide warm bedding so your cats can stay comfortable and healthy in cold weather. 4. Keep your outdoor cats in a secure, temporary holding facility (e.g., a closed barn, tack room, shed, garage, crawl space, etc.) for three weeks while they acclimate to their new home. You will need to place a litter box, food and water bowls, and warm bedding inside the acclimation facility. After the acclimation period the litter box will no longer be needed. 5. Promise that you will not use rodent poisons as long as you have barn cats. If a cat (including your pet cats), eats a rodent that has been poisoned, he or she can die a rapid and very painful death.
