THIS GENTLE KITTY WITH A SMASHED-TO-SMITHEREENS BACK LEG COMES RUNNING WHEN YOU CALL TO HIM! "TINY TIM" DOESN'T NEED NO CRUTCHES! Our newest rescue from Death Row (it was literally a 11th hour rescue, right before they were scheduled to kill him) is a handsome young "tuxedo" cat the kill shelter; they were calling him "Tiny Tim". I am told by their staff that they have "themes" for naming the cats, dogs and others whose lives with them are so short, so my guess is that they were doing names from Charles Dickens, so of course the "cripple" with the hopeless leg would get the name "Tiny Tim". Whereas the actual cat in question far more warrants the Dickensian name "The Artful Dodger". I think I'll call him "DODGER". He's so quick to dash out of his quarantine room, not so easy to catch when he doesn't want to be caught. He can lead quite a chase! He's otherwise a very easy, easy-going cat, gentle if a little talky when he's got your attention. He's one of those wonderful kitties who throw their whole back and head into meeting your hand as it pets them - he really gets into it! At the kill shelter they call such cats "beginner level", in that any person or group of people would be a good adopter; he'd be good with a human child, a canine child, an older or inactive person, an active kitten or elderly cat or dog, a person on the go who isn't home much or who travels. Dodger is a companion for your solitary evenings or your family gatherings. We took him away overnight to see how he would behave if he had a home, and we can confidently state that he is a pleasure and a joy. Quiet but for the occasional soft comment, he always wants to know what you are up to and to join you in an unobtrusive way - for instance, standing by you so you can pet him when you are in the toilet, standing on the table beside you when you are watching a film or doing a craft or task, and lying on the floor at your feet cleaning himself when you are preparing a meal. He is calm and friendly, but low-key, wanting to be at the hub of things but not in your face. He shows these behaviors from the very first minutes after you meet him and if you just stretch out your hand and pet him, that is all the introduction he needs to you to become your friend and to feel right at home and comfortable with you. Amazing for a cat whom some person threw out of a window! We are looking for an adopter for him who is prepared to take care of his busted leg, even to the extent of considering amputation if that should ever seem advisable. In spite of his injured leg, Dodger likes to stand up a little bit (not so high as Brown) on his back legs when you pet him, just to show how much he gets into it! He likes to sit around the dining room table with you, mainly in a chair of his own although he might also quietly share your chair with you. He's a lovely companion who does make his own gentle comments now and then, but he does not leave his dining room chair to grab your dinner off the table. Dodger loves to join people when they are sitting on the sofa, leaning into your body and purring loudly. He may grip your arm gently as you pet him. He wants to be where you are, situating himself in whatever room or part of the room you are in!
