Clackamas County Children's Commission is seeking applicants for a Family Educator for our Early Head Start program. General Objective: To support families toward the fulfillment of their child's potential for intellectual, social, emotional, physiological growth, and maturation to allow their child the opportunity to become life and school ready. To develop quality partnerships with families to achieve their family goals, by referring to community resources and coordinating social services for enrolled families, children, and parents. To assist in ensuring that all Performance Standards are met and Clackamas County Children's Commission policies and procedures are followed. Some of the daily functions and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to: • Schedule and carry out required home visits. • Complete all child screenings and assessments in partnership with parents within defined deadlines, such as but not limited to hearing, vision, growth, nutrition, and development. • Provide referrals and follow-up services as indicated by screenings and/or assessments. • Facilitate the role of parents as the primary nurturers and teachers of their children by planning and developing with the parents an individualized program using weekly educational activity plans based on their child's assessments and interests. Partner with the parent in setting school readiness goals for their child. • Evaluate social service needs of families and link families to appropriate resources in order to meet identified needs. These needs may include: direct, individual problem solving and/or counseling: referrals; crisis prevention and intervention; long and short term goal setting; assistance with follow-up; and advocacy. • Ensure all transitions are started within the stated timeline and completed in a timely fashion as needed. • Maintain complete and accurate child and family files, forms, and reports within allotted time lines to document and track needs of families and services provided to them in both manual and electronic form. • Provide individualized, comprehensive ongoing services to all enrolled pregnant women collaborating with community partners to provide necessary services. Assist these soon to be moms with understanding of healthy pregnancies and positive childbirth outcomes. • Develop and organize parent/child socialization groups. Qualifications: • Minimum Associate's Degree in ECE, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Family Studies, or a related field; and minimum of two years of experience working in homes with adults in a counseling or coaching capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience with willingness to obtain additional training as requested. • Experience using computer programs for documentation. • Strong knowledge of theories and practices of Early Childhood Education and child health, safety, and nutrition practices specifically related to infants and toddlers. • Ability to work effectively with at risk-families. • Ability to function effectively in cross cultural situations providing an attitude of acceptance that supports and respects each parent's gender, family culture, language , and ethnicity. • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team. • Valid Driver's License and insured vehicle available for use on the job or an acceptable alternative. • Maintain current First Aid/CPR certification. • Obtain and hold current food handlers card. • Maintain compliance with Criminal History Registry. This position is a full-time (40 hrs. per week), year-round, benefited, non-exempt position with a starting wage of $1525-$16.05/hour depending on education.
