I have been raising and milking hair sheep for many years, and have been selecting for milk production, good conformation including structure, udder size and shape and teat size and placement , parasite resistance, and last but certainly not least DISPOSITION. I call my mixed Heins 57 girls "Faux Doe" dairy sheep, and I am NEVER going back to raising goats....though I raised showed and LOVED my standard dairy goats for many years. (1984 - 2012) We had a record year for triplets with six sets and a high number of ewe lambs this year. We just cannot keep them all. I have lines that are quiet and people friendly. These girls are super easy to work with and very easy to like. Some are the sort that will shadow you and demand attention, though they are not as aggressive about it as goats. Some of these animals are percentage East Fresian , or Lacoun dairy sheep. Most should shed their wool without shearing, some have nice short hair coats. Sheep are grazers and while they will still kill the trees and shrubs in their pen they will do a far better job of eating grass and weeds then goats. Other advantages they have on goats is their milk is always sweet and delicious. It never gets strong flavors when they feed on bitter forage. They are easier to fence, don't dominate each other and fight, and don't jump on everything. Sheep milk is sweet, rich and higher in solids, as well as some vitamins and minerals then goat or cow milk. With a smaller fat molecule then goat milk, it is quite digestible. I have had several animals give close to a half gallon in a single milking after being separated from their lambs overnight. They are non seasonal breeders, which means you can have lambs most anytime of the year, and of course milk too. Hair sheep have tender mild meat that is a treat on the grill, roasted in the oven or made into sausage. I hope I have priced these ewes above meat prices. I am not opposed to eating sheep but would rather they not have to be stressed by being displaced....just to end up someone else's dinner! Proven ewes are $350.00 each this years lambs are $300.00 I may negotiate with folks wanting to milk these sheep and continue to breed for good milkers. I have others including intact ram lambs available. I can put together starter flocks. I breed for dairy qualities because they ALL taste good. Even ewes that don't make the grade after freshening! Please feel free to call at a reasonable hour (7am to 9 pm) if you want more information. A little about each ewe is below. Thank you! Gingersnap is from one of my best ewes. She had a single ewe lamb as a yearling. Twin 2018 model. Gingersnap's daughter.... Gingerbug has very correct conformation! Single 2019 model I am probably keeping Swirly's twin and her daughter (Freckles) from this year. This ewe has grown out two big lambs on range as a first freshening 2 yr old. May 2017 model. Sweet Pea is from a wonderful line of ewes. She is lap dog gentle and her mother is 50% Lacoun and has big easy to milk teats. Single 2019 model Panda is gentle and friendly her mother is 50% East Freisian. This girl has great potential. A twin 2019 model The white ewe without a name is from a ewe that would not dry up even after being severely injured by a dog! Excellent milking bloodlines, quiet disposition. Her sire was all hair sheep so she should shed her wool. A twin 2019 model.
